About abagOnline,
access to bay area governments Online " Networking local governments for the 21st Century"
In January 1994, the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) embarked on an ambitious program to organize federal, state, regional, and local Bay Area governmental agencies in an information network on the Internet. ABAG established a network called "access to bay area governments Online" ( abagOnline ) for this purpose. The members/information providers of abagOnline are primarily government agencies, including local city and county offices; special districts such as schools, water supply and sewerage utilities, and transportation agencies; state agencies such as the Regional Water Quality Control Board, Office of Emergency Services, and Employment Development Department; and federal agencies such as Department of Labor, U.S. Geological Survey, and the Environmental Protection Agency. Nonprofit community-based organizations may also participate by offering services and assistance to citizens via abagOnline. abagOnline features World Wide Web and ftp servers and offers a hosting service for agencies choosing not to independently maintain an active Internet server. Services available through abagOnline include "City Hall" information open 24 hours, quicker access to agendas and meeting minutes, easier access to proposed ordinances and legislation, electronic access to forms and regulations, less expensive copies of large databases, efficient browsing of legal notices and RFPs, electronic communication with agency officials, and access to agencies physically removed from the local community. abagOnline Staff:
