Water Quality |
| Activities since 1978 have focused on implementing the Regional Water Quality Management Plan for the San Francisco Bay Area. A project begun in 1993 and scheduled for completion in December 1994 is the updating of ABAG's Manual of Standards for Erosion Control Measures at construction sites. This effort, funded partially by a Sec. 205(j) Clean Water Act grant, will produce a newly relevant document essential to cities' and counties' compliance with new Federal and State stormwater runoff regulations. Current activities involve ABAG's partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency in the San Francisco Estuary Project, a multi-year project to develop a comprehensive plan for conserving and managing the waters of San Francisco Bay and Delta. In 1994-95 the Estuary Project will work toward the implementation of the goals of the recently adopted Comprehensive Conservation and Mangement Plan. Pending federal legislation sponsored by Congress member Nancy Pelosi (Clean Water Act Extension) may allow expanded activities toward implementation of short-term goals. ABAG has proposed, for funding under Section 319 of the Federal Clean Water Act, to conduct during 1994-95 low-cost training in erosion control as a means of reducing stream siltation and soil loss. |
