"Transformation Management and the Future of Bay Area Business"

At the helm of the National Semiconductor since May 1991, Amelio is responsible for its transformation, resulting in record earnings for the past two years, and a new focus on Technologies for Moving and Shaping Information.

He is also author of a new book, Profit from Experience.

Armed with a Ph.D. in physics, 16 patents, and 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, Amelio is the prototype of Bay Area success.

Recently elected as chairman of the Bay Area Council, Amelio is now taking a leadership role in the future of the region.

ALLIANCES FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Standardized code requirements, joint trade missions, youth employment programs, and community supported permit streamlining projects have recently been established through collaborations of cities, counties, special districts, businesses and labor in different parts of the Bay Area.

Ron Geary - Building Official, City of Mountain View, Linda Jefferey - Director of Membership, Alameda County Economic Development Advisory Board, and Mary McCarthy - President, Solano County Economic Development Corporation, will present model projects. Ellen Corbett - Mayor, City of San Leandro, will moderate.

CITY-SCHOOL-LIBRARY COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS

Sharing costs and access to community recreation and education facilities is the latest strategy for delivering cost-effective services.

Ann Cousineau - Solano County Library Services, Elaine Curran - Administrative Analyst, City of Sunnyvale, and Kern Hildebrand - Liesure Services Director, City of Walnut Creek, will present model projects. Mary Griffin - Supervisor, San Mateo County and past ABAG president, will moderate.

HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES PARTNERSHIPS

Facing state and federal cutbacks, cities and counties are teaming up with non-pofit community organizations to serve expanding and diversifying populations with fewer dollars.

Martha Fleetwood - Executive Director, HomeBase, Dr. Tom Peters - Director of Health and Human Services, Marin County, and Dr. Amor Santiago - Executive Director, Community Health Partnerships of Santa Clara, will present model projects. Paul Battisti - Supervisor, Napa County, will moderate.

JOINT VENTURES IN PUBLIC SAFETY

Multi-jurisdictional partnerships among city, county and state peace officers are achieving cost savings, increased efficiency and reductions in crime.

Assemblymember Tom Bates - California State Legislature, Captain John Sterling - East Palo Alto Police Department, and Captain Mark Thomas - Sausalito Police Department, will present model projects. Charlotte Powers, Councilmember, City of San Jose, will moderate.
