The City of Palo Alto has made available their Master License agreement for the installation of telecommunications fibers along City streets for posting on the Telecomm Network.

The retrofit strengthening of the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge has evolved to include alternative designs for a new span. For details on the design alternatives, visit the Caltrans site. March 12, 1997State of the Estuary Conference Recap Posted
The third biennial State of the Estuary Conference was held under the auspices of the San Francisco Estuary Project on October 10, 11 and 12, 1996 at the Presidio of San Francisco. The conference provided an update on the environmental health of the San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary. The conveners of the technical scientific sessions presented a recap of those sessions on Saturday, October 12.

The National Weather Service's marine forecast has been added to the abagOnline weather page. The forecast includes readings from the weather bouy just outside the Golden Gate and broadcast from the National Data Bouy Center, San Francisco Station.

The ABAG Training Center has released the details of the conference program and training seminars at ABAG's 14th annual hazardous materials and environmental regulations conference, HAZMACON. Highlights this year include Brownfields redevelopment, Cal/EPA programs, and an exploration of the "natural attenuation" controversy. January 16, 1997New Wireless Communications Licenses Awarded
On January 15, newsmedia reported that the last three of six wireless personal communications licenses in the Bay Area were awarded to Western PCS, AT&T Wireless PCS Inc., and NextWave Telecom Inc. by the FCC. These companies join current licensees Sprint PCS, Pacific Bell Mobile Services, and GWI PCS. Does this mean a new wave of applications for local siting of communications towers? Probably. Details of the awards are sketchy but a news release is available at the Federal Communications Commission.
