ABAG's Power Conference Set For September 19th
This one-day conference is for local government officials and staff as well as others interested in learning about community aggregation options in California. The conference will feature the experience of local governments currently developing aggregation proposals, review the economic costs and benefits of aggregation, analyze the important state and federal legal requirements and prohibitions, and update attendees on the development of the Power Exchange and Independent System Operator. Article on State Telecom Pre-emption
The August issue of Civic.Com magazine has a very good article about Texas' and Colorado's actions to limit local government authorities over telecommunications carriers and rights-of-way actions. The article was written by Miles Fidelman of the Center for Civic Networking at www.civic.net. The publication maintains a web site at www.fcw-civic.com, however, this article is only available in hard copy. .

At the abagOnline Advisory Meeting of August 8, 1997, Digger, the abagOnline search hound was unveiled. Digger, available through the abagOnline homepage, is a unique front end to the HotBot search engine, preconfigured to search only the official web sites of Bay Area local and regional governments. Citizens can now get targeted responses to their questions, instead of the many thousands of references turned up by the popular search engines. Give it a try.

Keep up with junk gun legislation!
June has been a busy month for junk gun control advocates. City of Livermore residents voted to ban junk guns within city limits (click here to see text of ordinance), and the California Legislature passed bills banning the sale and manufacture of junk guns.
