What's New and What's Coming
ABAG received funding from USGS to produce additional innovative maps showing maximum shaking, composite risk, and other innovative information. These maps should be available in late 1997 and early 1998.
ABAG has just received notice that it has been funded by the National
Science Foundation. The funded project focuses on an analysis of:
1) which pre-earthquake housing mitigation programs of local governments
work and why, and
2) the impacts of housing losses on post-earthquake family assistance
grants, feeding programs and the rental housing market.
In addition, ABAG has just received funding from FEMA through the State
Office of Emergency Services to provide a "Train the Trainer"
course for conducting "Seismic Retrofit Training for Building
Contractors and Local Government Building Officials." Our objective
is to develop a cadre of instructors that can present this popular course
curriculum. We anticipate that most instructors should be from professinal
training organizations or universities that would normally teach
construction techniques for building. However, "leaders" from
local government building departments are also being sought.
ABAG is attempting to add maps of additional hazards to this site over the next few months. For example, we are currently updating information on liquefaction. For more information about the liquefaction hazard in the Bay Area, as well as our future plans, click here.
