People can
be killed by sharks AND people can by killed by the effects
of earthquakes on buildings and other structures. Therefore, we can
be concerned about both and take appropriate precautions. (Yes, we also
understand the connections with “sharks” trying to get your money by
doing “false” earthquake-proofing, and that San Jose has both earthquakes
and a hockey team called the “Sharks.”) However, the real
reason we made this statement was to acknowledge that our idea for this
“quiz” came when the ABAG’s Earthquake Program Manager’s daughter, Lena,
was “surfing the Web” to find information about great white sharks for
a paper she was writing for a 7th grade class. That “original” quiz
on SHARKS is no longer on the web, however.
