ABAG and
George Washington University conducted research to determine some of
the impacts of future Bay Area earthquakes on housing for 19 different
earthquake scenarios. These effects are quite sobering. The report,
Shaken Awake!, describes the forecasted number of housing
units made uninhabitable, the number of people forced from their homes,
and the number of people requiring publically provided shelter. The
estimates have been revised several times since they were originally
