• Maintain proper sheathing edge distance

• Check for splitting

• Remove improperly installed nails

• Provide proper edge nailing

WHAT ARE SOME OTHER PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED WHILE NAILING?

• Splitting of lumber:
  • All fasteners in wood must be installed without splitting of the lumber.
  • There are no exceptions.
  • Existing lumber can be very dry and stiff. If needed to prevent splitting, predrilling of holes at 75% of the nail diameter is required.
  • Remember that nail guns, especially, will split the lumber if nailed too close to the edge
