Notes:
- The foundation normally consists of one or more the following materials :
- Concrete, concrete block, brick, and stone
- Primary issue: Contractor must know when to get help from an engineer
- Concrete is best
- Most earthquake anchor devices require concrete
- If you don’t have a concrete foundation, you must look at engineered alternatives
- Concrete block
- Fully grouted and reinforced concrete block tends to act as concrete
- If not grouted and reinforced concrete block will act as brick or stone
