FOUNDATION TYPES

• There are six general types of foundations categories:
  • No foundation
  • Partial foundation
  • Post and pier throughout
  • Perimeter footing with interior posts
  • Continuous perimeter and interior footings
  • Continuous footings with slab floor on grade

• No foundation, or too small a partial foundation
  • There are some buildings with no foundations, such as old garages
  • The figure shows a building with a partial foundation
  • Horizontal forces in the building cannot transfer safely into the ground
