Energy Efficiency = Climate Protection
"By working closely with City of Sebastopol staff and providing free technical services, the ABAG Partnership assisted us in identifying and prioritizing energyefficiency retrofit projects to address both energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions, while resolving performance problems and improving comfort in our municipal facilities."

– Mayor Sam Pierce, City of Sebastopol

ABAG Energy Watch can help you meet your climate protection goals. Energy-efficiency projects not only save money, but are also one of the easiest ways to reduce municipal facility greenhouse gas emissions.

In conjunction with the Sonoma County Climate Protection Campaign, a number of energy-efficiency projects were completed for the City of Sebastopol. Audits identified cost-effective projects in the Police Station, Library and the City’s water pumps. Assistance was also provided to City staff to obtain Council approval for the projects and low-interest loan funds from the California Energy Commission (CEC) to implement the projects. The energy-efficiency projects have a six-year simple payback on investment.

From these and other efforts, Sebastopol expects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 32 percent in municipal operations – a reduction of 334 tons of CO2 per year. By combining the CEC loan, avoided utility payments, money invested locally in climate protection projects, and incentives, the greenhouse gas emission reduction project investment has a 73 percent internal rate of return. Through this work, Sebastopol is serving both current and future generations.
