Retrocommissioning (RCx) aims to optimize operation of existing building mechanical equipment. ABAG Energy Watch can make recommendations for adjustments and changes to operation and maintenance practices that are often low-cost, yet significantly improve occupant comfort while reducing energy use.
As a result of the ABAG team RCx study, the City of Morgan Hill is working to reduce energy use at their Community and Cultural Center by 15 percent. The study (completed in 2006) determined that this building was using more energy than 71 percent of similar buildings. The ABAG team identified 11 different heating/cooling system problems and developed a list of recommended measures. The resulting energy cost savings are expected to pay for the cost of resolving the problems in less than six months.
