Principles of Local Planning anf Economic Vitality

Solano County Planning and Economic Devlelopment Directors and the Solano County Economic Development Corporation

Collaboration is key to regional planning in support of community economic vitality. In this spirit, the senior planning and economic development officials of Solano's seven cities and the county produced this work product. The process has enhanced inter-city and county communication. The participants, although not policy makers, are the professionals most involved with implementing local planning policy.

With professional facilitation from staff of the Association of Bay Area Governments, these Solano professionals examined the principles of local planning and economic vitality to identify areas of consensus of thinking. This work product, endorsed by the Solano Mayors, is the result of those efforts.

The goal of the professionals in producing this document is to assist in developing a regional Solano identity and promoting innovative and efficient solutions to county-wide policy concerns. It is not intended to be an all-encompassing principles statement. Rather it is a working document expressing the common thinking of Solano's municipal professionals. In light of existing community priorities, it is a beginning to addressing the region's needs through a regional policy-making approach.

A caveat o this work product is that Solano policy matters should be addressed through a locally determined, that is Solano-based, process.
