| One year ago, GIS Planning developed an Internet GIS application for the City of Vallejo and the Mare Island Base Conversion which provides interactive services of site-selection, demographic and economic market analysis, and business competition reports. The City of Vallejo is using this application for the recruitment of new businesses by simplifying and speeding up the information gathering process by providing dynamic information through a GIS infrastructure. The application also shows redevelopment areas, traffic counts and available properties in a map format that is easy to understand and use. Hear a one-year report on the success of this approach. | With assistance and in cooperation with the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), MTC has implemented a way for the general public to get very detailed information about how to use transit to travel within the region. The focus of the presentation will be on a live demonstration of the TranStar system. TranStar was originally developed for internal use by transit operator telephone information centers. Building on the proven usefulness of TranStar, MTC has implemented a way for the general public to access TranStar and develop personalized transit trip itineraries over the Internet. | ||

| Local governments have always relied on citizen involvement to improve the community, and not just in times of financial stress. In the Bay Area Community collaborative Groups (CCGs) bring together local agencies serving vulnerable populations to specifically address issues related to disaster preparedness and response. By participating in a local collaborative, agencies connect to a network of other service providers and a variety of resources to suit their individual needs. The California Office of Emergency Services, Coastal Region, has developed an online network to support community-based organizations and integrate them into emergency management. The experience of the project can be used to develop and harness the energy of your community. | ||

| Intelligent government decisions are made based upon strong citizen participation. The Decision.Room service provides an Internet-based community dialogue in which anyone can participate at any time just by pressing a button. Easily maintained by the municipality, users select the comment center button to see an overview of active issues, view a display of comments posted by others on a specific issue and links to more content (GIS, permits, reports) to aid them in forming an informed opinion. Listen to the presentation, then discuss how your agency is prepared to open a very public dialogue on issues. | ||

Registration is limited. Please register early to ensure you will be able to attend. Cost is $80 ($60 for member local governments) including lunch. Refunds will be issued up to seven days before the workshop, however, an administrative fee of $25 will be charged.
The first 30 persons registering will receive a parking pass to the ABAG employee parking lot. All others will receive directions to local commercial parking lots. We are located across the street from the Lake Merritt BART station. |
