he Bentley
School is a nonprofit public benefit corporation operating an independent
coeducational K-8 day school in the City of Oakland, Alameda County. The School
draws students from the East Bay cities of Oakland and Berkeley and their
neighboring communities. Founded in 1920 in Berkeley, the School incorporated
as a nonprofit in 1969 about the same time it moved to its present 4-acre
campus in the Hiller Highlands neighborhood of Oakland. As a 501(c)(3)
educational organization, the School meets the requirements of the Tax Code for
borrowing using tax-exempt securities.
In March of 1997, the Authority issued an $8.7 million Letter of
Credit-Secured Variable Rate financing for the Bentley School. The financing
provided funding for the acquisition, renovation, and construction of a high
school campus on the site of a former public school in the City of Lafayette,
Contra Costa County.
